The longest conflict in America’s history has taken the lives of over 23-hundred US troops and has cost Washington more than a trillion dollars. Recent polls show that a great majority of Americans believe the Afghan war was not worth the cost. Only 23 percent of US soldiers say the mission has been a success. Washington’s main objective was to wipe out Taliban militancy, but that goal was never achieved as the insurgents regrouped in neighboring Pakistan and continue to conduct terrorist attacks on an almost daily basis. Analysts say the war has brought nothing but regret and fatigue.
