An American investigative journalist believes that it is credible that the US Central Intelligence Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation are involved in Ukraine’s crisis.

Dozens of CIA and FBI agents are involved in the offensive against the pro-Russian activists, who seized buildings in several towns and cities, German newspaper Bild am Sonntag reported on Sunday.

“Their activity is limited to the capital Kiev,” according to the paper.

According to the paper, the agencies are advising the government in Kiev on how to deal with the “fight against organized crime” and stop the violence in the country’s restive eastern regions.

“We know that CIA Director [John] Brenan was in Ukraine just before the aborted assault that took place against one of the cities that was being occupied by pro-Russian forces and the report seems to have the ring of credibility in Reuters that suggests the CIA is kind of directly the current offensive by Ukrainian forces in the eastern part of Ukraine,” Dave Lindorff told Press TV on Sunday.

“They’re talking about the FBI being involved in tracking a trace in Yanukovych money. That makes a lot of sense. The FBI has a lot of skills in that area … It’s just the corruption spreads far and wide in ruling elite in Ukraine, pro-Russian or Ukrainian,” the author said.
