Drone Strikes on Civil Liberties?

NextNewsNetwork | May 27, 2014 | CHANNEL

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has vowed to filibuster the nomination of David Barron to the First Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston.

The announcement was made in response to a growing debate over drone strikes on American citizens.

Paul told reporters he will oppose "anyone who would argue that the president has the power to kill American citizens not involved in combat."

The Justice Department recently announced they will be releasing a redacted version of the law they claim gives the federal government power to execute American citizens.

Marcy Wheeler is an independent journalist who writes extensively on civil rights and national security issues. One of her recent pieces is titled "Why You Should Take Rand Paul's Latest Stand on Drones Seriously."

Wheeler is our guest on the show today. She is here to talk to us about drone strikes, and how civil liberties are impacted by their development. We will discuss how the growing popularity of drones could affect military uses, and what may happen in the next few years regarding legislation regulation unmanned aircraft. Rand Paul will also be the topic of conversation, including his potential bid for the White House in 2016.
