Pulitzer Winner’s 96-second NDAA Cartoon

Pulitzer Winner’s 96-second NDAA Cartoon by Carl Herman

2010 Pulitzer-winner Mark Fiore's 96-second animated cartoon highlights the removal of Constitutional Civil Rights. When "rights" are no longer absolute, they are no longer rights. This changes the definition of the US from defending unalienable rights and limited government under a Constitution, to having control over what liberties people receive and unlimited government and no restraining law, at least in these areas of the Bill of Rights.

Here's how this has progressed since 2006:

The background of NDAA extends into the Military Commissions Act of 2006 (MCA), which "legalized" Executive Branch declaration of, again, "any person" of being in a legal category without Constitutional or Geneva Convention Rights: an  unlawful enemy combatant. The Bush Administration applied this to American citizens, and the Obama Administration extends power to assassinate American citizens upon Executive Branch diktat of "unlawful enemy."

Mark’s cartoon also addresses torture. The US is bound by Constitutional Law, Federal Law, and four treaties to never torture. As you know, both Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney publicly admit to authorizing waterboarding/controlled drowning. All US case law found this practice to be torture; in fact, the US executed Japanese officials for authorizing its use upon US WW2 military.

As you also know, when US case law is unanimous in its legal decision, then the current legal status of waterboarding/drowning is defined as torture. If Mr. Bush and Cheney want to argue otherwise, the legal venue to do so is in criminal court, not a book tour.

Mr. Obama and his Justice Department refuse to prosecute this "emperor has no clothes" obvious violation of law, and move further from limited government under law to assassinate Americans upon the dictate of the leader (der fuhrer in German).

Carl Herman is a National Board Certified Teacher in economics, government, and history. His hobby is research, education, and lobbying for improved public policy. A principal project of his 30-years’ experience working with US “leadership” in government, economics and corporate media was to grow the citizen’s lobby, RESULTS, that led to two UN Summits (1990 World Summit for Children  - the largest meeting of heads of state in world history - and the 1997 Microcredit Summit - topic of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize). Because US political leadership of both parties reneged on each and every public and private promise to end poverty, and US corporate media behaved as their political propagandists, Carl shifted his hobby to "follow the money." His conclusions are explained and documented in these two articles (academic/professional voice, and more passionate citizen voice):

Open proposal for US revolution: end unlawful wars, parasitic economics
Common Sense for new American Revolution: revolt from US government by dicts

Megaupload Takedown: The Real Meaning

© techland.time.com
Megaupload Takedown: The Real Meaning - Washington Blog

Megaupload Shows that SOPA and PIPA Aren’t Needed

The Feds’ takedown of Megaupload shows beyond the shadow of a doubt that SOPA, PIPA or any similar legislation is wholly unnecessary.
As the Atlantic’s Dashiell Bennett correctly notes:
The shutdown inadvertently proved that the U.S. government already has all the power it needs to take down its copyright villains, even those that aren’t based in the United States. No SOPA or PIPA required.
Indeed, that might be why SOPA’s chief sponsor – who said he’d still push SOPA even after Wednesday’s web blackout – backed down right right after megaupload was taken down. (Granted, it could have also been because Anonymous’ hacking spree showed that draconian legislation won’t stop techies, or because of increased political pressure from other areas.)

Why the Take Down of Megaupload Was Wrong

Every day, criminals use storage lockers to stash drugs, stolen jewelry, etc. When the Feds raid, they seize the ill-gotten loot, and throw the criminals in jail … as they should.

They don’t shut down the entire storage company, or the train station where the locker is located. We can all agree that that would be absurd.

But the Feds say that Megaupload was basically a criminal enterprise, focused on illegal conduct. In other words, their response to the storage company analogy will be that the storage company gave money to people who stored dope or stolen property there, and that the whole thing was a criminal enterprise. (The Feds also point out that a grand jury found that Megaupload probably did bad stuff.)

I don’t know enough about Megaupload to know whether or not that is true. Numerous top entertainment celebrities endorsed Megaupload (major stars like Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas sung Megaupload’s praises)… so it’s not like the entire business was criminal. On the other hand, some people accuse Megaupload’s founder as being a serial criminal.

But the take down of Megaupload was wrong. It should have gone through the normal court process, and a judge should have ruled on the site before anything was done to kill the business. This is especially true because the. countries involved are signatories to international copyright and extradition treaties, not “rogue” nations.

It should be the courts which examine the evidence and determine whether the business used a criminal business model, or was mainly a legitimate business. Whatever happened to due process of law?

In the “Real” World, People Would Get Their Property Back

Even if the criminal company analogy is accurate, the honest customers of a storage company would normally get their property back. They wouldn’t say “60 percent of the customers are crooks, Mrs. Jones, so we threw away your priceless family heirlooms, too.”

Indeed, if it were easy for the Feds to arrest the criminal owners of the company and to give people notice that they could pick up their property, they would probably do so, and give a specific timeframe to pick it up.
The Feds would not shut down the storage company and throw out all of the property stored there by honest people.

As Ernesto at TorrentFreak writes:

Do the feds realize that hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of people used the site to share research data, work documents, personal video collections and much more?

What will happen to these personal non-infringing files?

People are outraged on Twitter and are demanding access to their files immediately.

By mindlessly shutting down the site, the Feds have made a very stupid move, indeed.

Depreciating Your Soul: Your Wages Will Be Cut In Half!

Your Wages Will Be Cut In Half! - Heretic Productions

The Heretic presents The Visionary Horse 237 from Video Rebel's Blog with: "Translating Zero Hedge: Your Wages Will Be Cut In Half" at; http://vidrebel.wordpress.com/2012/01/19/translating-zero-hedge-your-wages-wi...

Yesterday Zero Hedge ran a story that most people will never see or really understand. Zero Hedge reported that the Russians have sold off half of their US Treasury bonds over the past year. China has been dumping their dollar holdings too but still have over a trillion dollars left. Other foreigners have been dumping their dollars too. The current US inflation rate is 12%. Ben Bernanke has been creating trillions of dollars to bail out banks in Europe, to buy worthless securities from US banks and to fund the US debt. That will accelerate inflation. Inflation will go from 12% to 15% and then 20% in less than a year. The media will no longer be able to repeat the lie that the inflation rate is only 3 1/2%. Inflation will become an issue in the 2012 races for congress, Senate and the presidency.

Accelerating inflation will force people overseas to dump any dollars they receive for selling Americans food, clothes, electronics, cars, oil and other raw materials as soon the transaction is completed. This phenomenon is called an increase in the velocity of money. It is a sign your economy is transitioning from an inconveniently high rate of inflation to hyperinflation. The US dollar is an international reserve currency which means that if France wants to buy food from Brazil they will likely have to use US dollars to make that transaction. In colonial America the colonists had to earn British pounds or gold to buy something from overseas. Michael Hudson in his book Super Imperialism described how the US was funding its wars by inflating the supply of currency used to settle trade. Since WW II we have been getting real goods like cars and clothes from foreigners in exchange for increasingly worthless paper. When Hudson explained this to the Pentagon, a general said, "Wow. We are ripping people off."

I would define hyperinflation as beginning at 25% for an international reserve currency like the dollar. That is why when inflation surged in the latter part of the Carter presidency (1979-1980) Chairman of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker raised interest rates. Home mortgages went to 15 1/2%. Ben Bernanke cannot raise interest rates today. His only option would be to devalue the dollar which is what he said he would do in that now infamous speech he made in Washington DC on 11-21-2002.

That means after the 2012 elections the Russians, the Chinese, Iran, Venezuela plus their clients states and a few other nations can and will force a devaluation of the dollar by refusing to accept Federal Reserve Notes in international trade. If Americans balk, China just has to dump a hundred billion dollars and buy commodities driving the price of food out of the reach of WalMart shoppers. Of course I realize the Chinese will just be doing what the bankers want them to do.

An international conference will be held at which the dollar will be devalued by about 40% as predicted by Bernanke. This will complete that 50% pay cut I have been predicting.

The Chinese will have dumped most of their dollars before the conference so that their economy will not be harmed by a dollar devaluation. If Americans can't afford to buy Chinese products, China will just sell them to people whose currencies were revalued upwards.

I would suggest you buy storable food, silver coins (not collectibles) and household items that will just increase in cost.

Of course this was all planned long ago by the bankers. I will conclude with this quote from a previous essay:

The Fundamental Fact of Your Existence as a modern man or woman is that the bankers of New York and London want to reduce you to Debt Slavery.

Accept that fact and move on to the solution.

And I also said:

That is their plan for you.

What is your plan for them?

Escalating Cyber War Spells Trouble for Internet Freedom

Escalating Cyber War Spells Trouble for Internet Freedom by Eric Blair

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.” – Gandhi

The cyber war escalated to a whole new level yesterday. The U.S. government shut down the popular website MegaUpload at the behest of corporate interests. The Feds accused MegaUpload of stealing $500 million in potential lost revenue from copyright holders.

Almost immediately, the hacktivist group Anonymous retaliated by launching massive DDoS attacks on several websites including the US Copyright Office, Department of Justice, FBI.gov, Universal Music Group, Music Picture Association of America, and the Recording Industry Association of America. The attack called “Operation MegaUpload” is also said to be targeting Whitehouse.gov.

Many Internet freedom and privacy activists are cheering Anonymous’ assault against the U.S. Government and the corporate interests that control it. But I’m getting the eerie feeling that Anonymous is playing right into the hands of those who wish to control and censor the Internet.

First, I must state unequivocally that the U.S. government and the copyright holders are clearly the aggressors in this war. Their actions violate current copyright laws where the content providers must prove damages in the court of law before they can sabotage and ransack a business they accuse of stealing. Even though a grand jury supposedly indicted MegaUpload, it’s nearly impossible for them to prove “potential lost revenue” since those engaged in file sharing cannot automatically be considered lost customers.

Because of this conundrum, copyright holders instead lobbied the government to change the laws to legalize this form of censorship through blunt force and without due process. It seems that since the sought-after legislation, SOPA, has been recently shelved due to universal protest, the State was compelled to act above the law to destroy those sharing information on the Web.

Even more suspicious is that some of the chief copyright holders pushing for these new guilty-until-proven-innocent laws were the ones who developed, promoted, and profited from file sharing in the first place. Again, it’s all beginning to feel like a set-up designed to justify Internet censorship, which is clearly the end game for the powers that be.

Thus the cyber war seems to be heading in the same direction as all literal and figurative wars do. Let’s remember that the public never wins in war. War always justifies atrocities against freedom and proves devastating for infrastructure. Fighting fire with fire very rarely results in anything but destruction. And it’s far easier to destroy something than to create a solution.

I hate to say it, but even if Anonymous are genuine activists, they seem to be acting like sophomoric thugs smashing store windows in a tantrum believing it to be an effective way to fight back. Does anyone truly believe that the government and the corporate forces that control it are going to lay down their arms because Anonymous is breaking windows that can be quickly replaced?

The reason SOPA was shelved was because of peaceful, voluntary activism. The left and the right united to oppose the legislation on principle and notified their elected officials not to support it, while prominent businesses voluntarily blacked out their websites in protest.  Now we must turn our resolve to its sister legislation, the Protect IP Act (PIPA) set for a vote on January 24th.

If history tells us anything, this escalation will only justify more abusive action on both sides that may ultimately result in a tightly controlled Internet as the only “solution” to the anarchy.  Ideas of freedom can win without destroying things.  Let's unite once again to make sure the PIPA legislation is also defeated or delayed.

SOPA is Censorship - Democracy Now

Democracy NOW! - Congressional support for a pair of anti-piracy bills is weakening after Wednesday's historic online protest in which thousands of websites went dark for 24 hours. Hollywood film studios, music publishers and major broadcasters support the anti-piracy legislation, saying it aims to stop the piracy of copyrighted material over the internet on websites based outside the United States. Critics say the bills could profoundly change the internet by stifling innovation and investment, hallmarks of the free and open internet. SOPA – Don’t Just Protest – Get Even by Tony Cartalluci

The entire reason why SOPA’s authors and supporters have the money, influence, and power to put draconian bills like it forward in the first place is because of our daily patronizing of their corporations and the goods and services they provide.

SOPA supporters include the US Chamber of Commerce, the MPAA, and many of the mega-corporations Americans, and indeed people around the world, support on a daily basis. The key to stopping SOPA and the watered down feigned “concession” that will surely follow it is to undermine the unwarranted power and influence of the corporations and financiers backing it in the first place. If Americans withdrew their support from these corporations, if theaters were left empty, if Pepsi and Coke were left collecting dust on the shelves of an empty Walmart, bills like SOPA would not exist, let alone have a chance to be passed into law.

Below is just one letter signed by just one group of these corporations and organizations. Boycott, put out out of business, and replace these corporations with local alternatives.

If you can’t live without the endless crass torrent of “bread and circus” as well as trinkets provided by the above mentioned supporters of this corporate-fascist agenda – the literal crafting and backing of legislation of, by, and for corporations -you don’t deserve the freedom you believe yourself entitled to.

There is not one corporation listed above that society could not live without and in many cases replace with decentralized, superior local alternatives. Freedom is not simply voicing your opposition or choosing representatives to do so on your behalf. Freedom is also about the responsibility to keep in check the creation of unwarranted power and influence garnered from your daily payments in attention, money, time, and energy to corporations that would seek to impose their will upon society using the very mechanisms of governance designed solely for the people’s benefit.

Identity the source of power behind bills like SOPA, and indeed many of the government policies wrecking our society, miring us in endless war, and leaving us in economic destitution.Boycott them, and replace them. We cannot be blamed for the greed and depravity of the global corporate-financier elite, but we can be blamed for fueling their megalomania on a daily basis.

Internet Blackout Highlights Failure of American Politics

source
Internet Blackout Highlights Failure of American Politics by J. G. Vibes

Our whole lives we have been told that we have “freedom”, that we live in a “democracy”, that “we the people” have the ability to choose the kind of society in which we want to live.

However, if you ask most Americans what kind of place they want, I guarantee you that a vast majority would disagree with almost every government action that has been put forward in their lifetime.

If we truly lived in a free society, we would not be in a half-dozen wars across the planet; we would not be subject to authoritarian policies such as the PATRIOT act and the NDAA; and the government would not have grown to become the biggest and most menacing dictatorship in the history of the world.  It seems that in the past year these major events have really resonated with a great number of people, not just in this country, but throughout the world.

In the past, the oppressed would beg and plead with the very people who were responsible for their condition because they knew no other way of affecting change in society.  People would ask the government to change their ways because they were under the impression that those in authority actually cared about them.  After generations of failing to create change through politics, people are now shifting the direction of their message towards one another, instead of pleading with politicians and organizations that don’t care about anyone but themselves.

With the recent protests surrounding SOPA and PIPA, we have really seen this new method of protest becoming more pronounced.  Sure, there are still millions drafting petitions and thousands joining marches and making signs.  However, nowadays these people don’t seem to be petitioning their government; it seems that more and more they are petitioning their fellow citizens.  This is because the government is an obstacle; one which stands between the people and their freedom.  Therefore, it is completely impossible to solely use the government as a tool to achieve freedom; this would be like trying to use a hammer to fix a broken computer, in both cases you’re only going to make the problem worse.

Luckily, most Americans have learned all of this just in time for the pivotal votes this month regarding online privacy.  SOPA and PIPA may seem unimportant when compared with the police state, the military industrial complex, genetically modified food and banking cartels, but if you think about it, without the Internet we would have an immense amount of difficulty dealing with any of the aforementioned problems.  Thanks to the Internet, these issues have gone from taboo subjects to national issues in just a matter of years, which is the whole reason for the rollout of the SOPA and PIPA acts to begin with.

Many of us sat and watched horrified from our homes, as Obama signed the NDAA into law, after he promised us that he wouldn’t.  With this betrayal still fresh in the public consciousness, fewer people are downplaying the authoritarian moves that our government is making, and of those people even fewer are considering politics as a viable method of achieving social change.

Today's “Internet blackout” is a sign of the new political discourse that has been developing worldwide.  Sure, I’ll admit that it’s going to take a lot more than a viral web campaign to bring us peace and freedom, but this is only a sign of things to come, and it’s a very good omen.  Today, over a thousand websites, including Google and Wikipedia, have either shut down or have been modified in some way to protest next week’s vote on SOPA.

People are now reaching out to their neighbors and devising methods of solving the problems that are created by politics, without depending on politicians to fix them.  In an article last month, I said that the only way we will truly win this revolution is if we take matters into our own hands in a series of small battles where we call the enemies bluff every time they attempt to assert their illegitimate authority.  Right now is an example of one of those battles, and considering that I have probably never seen this level of activism and participation among the general public, I would say that we are at least moving things in the right direction.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel cancels plan to increase protester fines

In December Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduced anti-protester legislation for the upcoming NATO and G-8 summits in Chicago. Part of his plan was to to increase the minimum fine from $25 to $200 and double the maximum fine to $1,000.

His plan, dubbed the 'Sit Down and Shut Up' ordinance, was slammed by many as an attack on free speech. On Tuesday, however, protesters received a partial victory when Mayor Emanuel agreed to drop the fine increase plan.

The Mayor apparently felt the heat of opposition, reports the Chicago Tribune:
The mayor had proposed doubling the maximum fine for resisting arrest to $1,000. McCarthy offered a substitute ordinance at a City Council hearing Tuesday that keeps the fine for resisting or obstructing a police officer at a range of $25 to $500.

"You listen to people and you hear them, that doesn't mean you don't make alterations," Emanuel said. "I haven't changed the objective."
ABC7Chicago reports:
"We don't want to give the impression that we're looking to do anything about the 1st Amendment except protect it," said Chicago Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy.
The Sun-Times reports that many of Emanuel's proposals remain:
Surviving measures include: more surveillance cameras; parks and beaches closed until 6 a.m.; sweeping parade restrictions and higher fees for those events and empowering McCarthy to “deputize” out-of-state law enforcement personnel experienced in handling civil unrest.

The mayor would also be granted sweeping authority to purchase goods and services for the summits — without City Council approval or competitive bidding — provided those items cannot be purchased under existing contracts.

“If these ordinances pass ... all bets are off. If the federal government decides to nix the permit we’ve already received, all bets are off. Why should people respect the law if the law does not respect them?” said Andy Thayer, a spokesman for the Coalition Against the NATO G-8 War and Poverty Agenda.
At a press conference yesterday, a broad group expressed their concerns over the mayor's plan:

ISRAEL: The World’s First "Bunker State"

ISRAEL: The World’s First "Bunker State" Room for Jews only in Israel’s ‘villa in the jungle’ - Jonathan Cook

The wheel is turning full circle. Last week the Israeli parliament updated a 59-year-old law originally intended to prevent hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees from returning to the homes and lands from which they had been expelled as Israel was established.

The purpose of the draconian 1954 Prevention of Infiltration Law was to lock up any Palestinian who managed to slip past the snipers guarding the new state's borders. Israel believed only savage punishment and deterrence could ensure it maintained the overwhelming Jewish majority it had recently created through a campaign of ethnic cleansing.

Fast-forward six decades and Israel is relying on the infiltration law again, this time to prevent a supposedly new threat to its existence: the arrival each year of several thousand desperate African asylum seekers.
As it did with the Palestinians many years ago, Israel has criminalised these new refugees - in their case, for fleeing persecution, war or economic collapse. Whole families can now be locked up, without a trial, for three years while a deportation order is sought and enforced, and Israelis who offer them assistance risk jail sentences of up to 15 years.

Israel's intention is apparently to put as many of these refugees behind bars as possible, and dissuade others from following in their footsteps.

To cope, officials have approved the building of an enormous detention camp, operated by Israel's prison service, to contain 10,000 of these unwelcome arrivals. That will make it the largest holding facility of its kind in the world - according to Amnesty International, it will be three times bigger than the next largest, in the much more populous, and divine retribution-loving, US state of Texas.

Israeli critics of the law fear their country is failing in its moral duty to help those fleeing persecution, thereby betraying the Jewish people's own experiences of suffering and oppression. But the Israeli government and the large majority of legislators who backed the law - like their predecessors in the 1950s - have drawn a very different conclusion from history.

The new infiltration law is the latest in a set of policies fortifying Israel's status as the world's first "bunker state"- and one designed to be as ethnically pure as possible. The concept was expressed most famously by an earlier prime minister, Ehud Barak, now the defence minister, who called Israel "a villa in the jungle", relegating the country's neighbours to the status of wild animals.

Barak and his successors have been turning this metaphor into a physical reality, slowly sealing off their state from the rest of the region at astronomical cost, much of it subsidised by US taxpayers. Their ultimate goal is to make Israel so impervious to outside influence that no concessions for peace, such as agreeing to a Palestinian state, need ever be made with the "beasts" around them.

The most tangible expression of this mentality has been a frenzy of wall-building. The best-known are those erected around the Palestinian territories: first Gaza, then the areas of the West Bank Israel is not intending to annex - or, at least, not yet.

The northern border is already one of the most heavily militarised in the world - as Lebanese and Syrian protesters found to great cost last summer when dozens were shot dead and wounded as they approached or stormed the fences there. And Israel has a proposal in the drawer for another wall along the border with Jordan, much of which is already mined.

The only remaining border, the 260km one with Egypt, is currently being closed with another gargantuan wall. The plans were agreed before last year's Arab revolutions but have gained fresh impetus with the overthrow of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak.

Israel is not only well advanced on the walls of the bunker; it is also working round the clock on the roof. It has three missile-defence systems in various stages of development, including the revealingly named "Iron Dome", as well as US Patriot batteries stationed on its soil. The interception systems are supposed to neutralise any combination of short and long-range missile attacks Israel's neighbours might launch.

But there is a flaw in the design of this shelter, one that is apparent even to its architects. Israel is sealing itself in with some of the very "animals" the villa is supposed to exclude: not only the African refugees, but also 1.5 million "Israeli Arabs", descendants of the small number of Palestinians who avoided expulsion in 1948.

This has been the chief motive for the steady stream of anti-democratic measures by the government and parliament that is rapidly turning into a torrent. It is also the reason for the Israeli leadership's new-found demand that the Palestinians recognise Israel's Jewishness; its obsessions with loyalty; and the growing appeal of population exchange schemes.

In the face of the legislative assault, Israel's Supreme Court has grown ever more complicit. Last week, it sullied its reputation by upholding a law that tears apart families by denying tens of thousands of Palestinians with Israeli citizenship the right to live with their Palestinian spouse in Israel - "ethnic cleansing" by other means, as leading Israeli commentator Gideon Levy noted.

Back in the early 1950s, the Israeli army shot dead thousands of unarmed Palestinians as they tried to reclaim property that had been stolen from them. These many years later, Israel appears no less determined to keep non-Jews out of its precious villa.

The bunker state is almost finished, and with it the dream of Israel's founders is about to be realised.

MLK on ending his version of today’s unlawful wars

MLK on ending his version of today’s unlawful wars by Carl Herman

From Dr. King's speech a year before his assassination: Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence.

The verdict of the King family civil suit found US government agencies responsible for Dr. King's assassination. The King family's conclusion is that the same forces who drove the Vietnam War killed Martin in order to prevent his occupation of Washington, D.C. in the summer of 1968, and to remain until the war was ended and resources directed to end US poverty.

POLICE OFFICER BEATING 66-YEAR-OLD MAN SUFFERING DEMENTIA

POLICE OFFICER BEATING 66-YEAR-OLD MAN SUFFERING DEMENTIA - CopWatchNews

MELBOURNE, Fla -- The family of an elderly Melbourne with dementia man says they plan on suing the police department -- all over a violent confrontation that was caught on camera.

The dash camera video shows 66-year-old Albert Flowers being kicked by Melbourne officer Derek Middendorf back in October. Flowers was also punched repeatedly, and another officer used a stun gun to shoot him in the face.

Police reports said the officer was investigating a call about an argument at the time. Officer Middendorf said Flowers was acting aggressively and refused to stop at a safe distance.

But the man's family said they're horrified and that the officer went too far.
"I know he has a job to do, but when you take it above and beyond after being warned that he has dementia when you are warning that he has dementia and be brutal like that it's criminal," said Flowers' son Carlos.

News 13 contacted Melbourne Police. They referred us to a spokesperson for the city who said because no complaint has been filed yet, they have nothing to respond to.
They do say though the officer turned off his camera before the incident - but the video was still able to be retrieved from a hard drive.

A hearing is set for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the city says Officer Middendorf is still employed with the police department, but is currently off the job after an unrelated injury - 15 January 2012

The NDAA: Just one more link in the chain of tyranny

The NDAA: Just one more link in the chain of tyranny - Global Research TV

With the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act into law, more Americans than ever before are wondering how the country could have descended so quickly into a police state. Far from a unique or isolated act, however, the NDAA is just the latest entry in a long list of steps toward the codification of outright martial law.

Find out more about the history of this agenda in this week's GRTV Backgrounder.

TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: http://www.corbettreport.com/?p=3719

Each year, the United States Department of Defense budget and expenditures are approved by Congress, which must pass a National Defense Authorization Act in order to fund the DoD.

The most recent bill, however, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, shocked many by containing an extraordinary provision allowing for the indefinite detention without trial of anyone even suspected of providing support to individuals or groups identified as terrorists. Although this represents little change from the US government?s modus operandi in waging the so-called war on terror, many were amazed to discover that this provision specifically applies to American citizens, who can now be detained by American military personnel anywhere in the world, including on US soil, and held indefinitely without trial.

Perhaps it is not surprising that President Obama chose New Year?s Eve as the date to sign the NDAA, as the revelry of the holiday predictably distracted Americans from the event. Particularly remarkable is the fact that the legislation has been almost universally identified as an overt act of tyranny by commentators of all political stripes, perhaps most importantly from sources that have traditionally defended the actions of Obama and his administration.

Now, on the heels of the NDAA, a new bill is making its way through Congress: the Enemy Expatriation Act that would make the controversy about the NDAA null and void by simply stripping Americans of their American citizenship, should they be accused of associating with government-deemed terrorist organizations.

What the outrage over the NDAA and now the Enemy Expatriation Act, reveal, however, is not that Obama or the current members of the House are suddenly taking the American government in a startling new direction, but merely that they are in fact continuing to pursue a coordinated policy agenda that has persisted through administration after administration on both the left and right sides of the political aisle for decades.

In 1864, during the American civil war, Lambdin P. Milligan and four others were sentenced to death by a military court after they were found guilty of planning to overthrow the state governments of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The case reached the Supreme Court after the war ended, where it was found to be unconstitutional for US citizens to be tried in military tribunals as long as civilian courts were operating. This precedent remained in tact for almost a century, with the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 further delineating the boundary between the military and civilians by barring US military from engaging in civil police actions except by act of congress.

In 1942, however, the Supreme Court ruled on Ex Parte Quirin, a case involving the detention of eight German saboteurs during World War II and their trial as civilians in a military tribunal. The court ruled that the eight men, one of whom was a US citizen, could be tried as ?unlawful combatants? in the war, a status applying to civilians who engage in armed conflict during times of war.

Unsurprisingly, it is this Ex Parte Quirin decision allowing for the military detention of civilians, not the Ex Parte Milligan precedent, which both the Bush and Obama administrations have relied on to try to assert their authority to detain civilians as unlawful combatants in the so-called war on terror. In the immediate wake of the 9/11 attacks, Congress passed an Authorization for Use of Military Force which authorized the President to ?use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks.? Less than two months later, Bush invoked that authorization to issue a Military Order declaring that individuals detained in the war on terror be tried in military tribunals. The administration immediately began applying this order to detainees in Afghanistan, regardless of affiliation.

The practice of detaining these ?enemy combatants? at Guantanamo Bay and other military detention centers has been challenged repeatedly in the courts. When the Supreme Court finally ruled in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld that the detainees could not be held as unlawful enemy combatants but had to be held as prisoners of war in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, Congress passed the Military Commissions Act of 2006 specifically authorizing military commissions for the detainees.

In 2008, the Supreme Court ruled that Guantanamo prisoners were entitled to the US justice system, but in 2009, Obama Attorney General Holder and Solicitor General Kagan testified that they believed the government could detain combatants in accordance with the laws of war, thus sidestepping the issue of determining a prisoner?s status or their right to trial.

Now the NDAA of 2012 seems to extend all of these precedents and provisions to US citizens. This comes in addition to Peace Prize laureate Obama?s stunning declaration that he has the right to kill American civilians anywhere in the world, without so much as a trial.

Perhaps most worryingly of all, when Obama expressed reservations about the NDAA, it was not because he as a Constitutional scholar felt the idea of using the military to detain American citizens on American soil was an unconscionable abrogation of everything the US constitution and Bill of Rights stood for, but because he felt that the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force had already granted him this power as supposed Commander-in-Chief in the supposed War on Terror, which has never actually been declared.

Now, many are asking what can be done to prevent this seemingly inevitable slide into overt military control over American citizens and others around the globe.

One voice providing an answer to this question is Stewart Rhodes, a Yale Law graduate and constitutional law scholar who founded Oath Keepers, an organization dedicated to instructing American police and military personnel about the nature of their oath to uphold the constitution, and how that oath precludes them in participating in acts that clearly violate the constitution.

Stewart Rhodes appeared on Corbett Report Radio last week to talk about the history of the use of 'enemy combatant status' as a legal smokescreen to violate the Bill of Rights, and how citizens can work to reverse the damage that has already been done by the passing of this legislation.

Dr. King family’s civil trial verdict: US government assassinated Martin

Dr. King family’s civil trial verdict: US government assassinated Martin - Washington Blog

“What then is, generally speaking, the truth of history? A fable agreed upon.”  - Napoleon Bonaparte [69]

The following is from : Occupy This: US History exposes the 1%’s crimes then and now (6-part series)

Dr. Martin Luther King’s family and his personal friend and attorney, William F. Pepper, won a civil trial that found US government agencies guilty in the wrongful death of Martin Luther King. The 1999 trial, King Family versus Jowers and Other Unknown Co-Conspirators, [70] is the only trial ever conducted on the assassination of Dr. King.

The King family’s attempts for a criminal trial were denied, as suspect James Ray’s recant of what he claimed was a false confession was denied. Mr. Ray said that his government-appointed attorney told him to sign a confession in order to receive a trial. When Mr. Ray discovered that his signature meant no trial, his and the King family’s subsequent requests were denied.

The US government also denied the King family’s requests for independent investigation of the assassination.

Therefore, and importantly, the US government has never presented any evidence subject to challenge that substantiates their claim that Mr. Ray assassinated Dr. King.

US corporate media did not cover the trial, interview the King family, and textbooks omit this information. Journalist and author, James Douglass: [71]

“I can hardly believe the fact that, apart from the courtroom participants, only Memphis TV reporter Wendell Stacy and I attended from beginning to end this historic three-and-one-half week trial. Because of journalistic neglect scarcely anyone else in this land of ours even knows what went on in it. After critical testimony was given in the trial’s second week before an almost empty gallery, Barbara Reis, U.S. correspondent for the Lisbon daily Publico who was there several days, turned to me and said, “Everything in the U.S. is the trial of the century. O.J. Simpson’s trial was the trial of the century. Clinton’s trial was the trial of the century. But this is the trial of the century, and who’s here?” ”

For comparison, please consider the media coverage of O.J. Simpson’s trials: [72]

“Media coverage of the Simpson trial, which began in January 1995, was unlike any other. Over two thousand reporters covered the trial, and 80 miles of cable was required to allow nineteen television stations to cover the trial live to 91 percent of the American viewing audience. When the verdict was finally read on October 3, 1995, some 142 million people listened or watched. It seemed the nation stood still, divided along racial lines as to the defendant’s guilt or innocence. During and after the trial, over eighty books were published about the event by most everyone involved in the Simpson case.”

The overwhelming evidence of government complicity introduced and agreed as comprehensively valid by the jury includes the 111th Military Intelligence Group were sent to Dr. King’s location, and that the usual police protection was pulled away just before the assassination. Military Intelligence set-up photographers on a roof of a fire station with a clear view to Dr. King’s balcony. 20th Special Forces Group had an 8-man sniper team at the assassination location on that day. Memphis police ordered the scene where multiple witnesses reported as the source of shooting cut down of their bushes that would have hid a sniper team. Along with sanitizing a crime scene, police abandoned investigative procedure to interview witnesses who lived by the scene of the shooting.

The King family believes the government’s motivation to murder Dr. King was to prevent his imminent camp-in at Washington, D.C. until the Vietnam War was ended and those resources directed to end poverty and invest in US hard and soft infrastructure.

Please watch this six-minute video of the evidence from the trial, [73] and this eight-minute video [74] on the FBI’s disclosures of covert operations against Dr. King, including confirmation from his closest friends and advisors.

Coretta Scott King, Dr. King’s wife, is certain of the evidence after 30 years of consideration from the 1968 assassination to the 1999 trial:

“For a quarter of a century, Bill Pepper conducted an independent investigation of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. He opened his files to our family, encouraged us to speak with the witnesses, and represented our family in the civil trial against the conspirators. The jury affirmed his findings, providing our family with a long-sought sense of closure and peace, which had been denied by official disinformation and cover- ups. Now the findings of his exhaustive investigation and additional revelations from the trial are presented in the pages of this important book. We recommend it highly to everyone who seeks the truth about Dr. King’s assassination.” — Coretta Scott King, Dr. King’s wife.

The US Department of Justice issued a report in 2000 that explains their investigation into their own possible guilt in the assassination found no evidence to warrant further investigation. Dr. King’s son issued the following statement [75] rebuking a “self-study” rather than the independent investigation the King family assert the evidence demands:

“We learned only hours before the Justice Department press conference that they were releasing the report of their results of their “limited investigation,” which covered only two areas of new evidence concerning the assassination of Dr. King. We had requested that we be given a copy of the report a few days in advance so that we might have had the opportunity to review it in detail.

Since that courtesy was not extended to us, we are only able at this time to state the following:

1. We initially requested that a comprehensive investigation be conducted by a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, independent of the government, because we do not believe that, in such a politically-sensitive matter, the government is capable of investigating itself.

2. The type of independent investigation we sought was denied by the federal government. But in our view, it was carried out, in a Memphis courtroom, during a month-long trial by a jury of 12 American citizens who had no interest other than ascertaining the truth. (Kings v. Jowers)

3. After hearing and reviewing the extensive testimony and evidence, which had never before been tested under oath in a court of law, it took the Memphis jury only one (1) hour to find that a conspiracy to kill Dr. King did exist. Most significantly, this conspiracy involved agents of the governments of the City of Memphis, the state of Tennessee and the United States of America. The overwhelming weight of the evidence also indicated that James Earl Ray was not the triggerman and, in fact, was an unknowing patsy.

4. We stand by that verdict and have no doubt that the truth about this terrible event has finally been revealed.

5. We urge all interested Americans to read the transcript of the trial on the King Center website and consider the evidence, so they can form their own unbiased conclusions.

Although we cooperated fully with this limited investigation, we never really expected that the government report would be any more objective than that which has resulted from any previous official investigation.”

Let’s summarize: Under US Civil Law, covert US government agencies were found guilty of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King was the leading figure of the Civil Rights Movement, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, and widely recognized as one of the world’s greatest speakers for what it means to be human.

The family’s conclusion as to motive was to prevent Dr. King from ending the Vietnam War because the government wanted to continue its ongoing covert and overt military operations to control foreign governments and their resources.

It is therefore a factual statement that under US Civil Law, the US government assassinated Dr. King.
This is similar that under Criminal Law, both O.J. Simpson and the US government are not legally guilty for murder, but both parties are guilty for killing innocent victims under Civil Law.

People of sufficient intellectual integrity and moral courage will embrace the trial evidence and testimony, jury conclusion, and King family analysis as appropriate and helpful information in seeking the facts.

People who at least temporarily reject challenging information out of fear might say something like, “The government killed Dr. King? That’s a crazy conspiracy theory!”

Let’s consider that statement.

When someone says that a body of evidence is “crazy,” or a “conspiracy theory” (meaning an irrational claim easily refuted by the evidence) that’s a claim. With a claim comes a burden of proof. In this case, the person would have to demonstrate command of the facts to explain and prove why the evidence from the civil trial is somehow “crazy” and easily refuted.

If the person can do this, it would be tremendously helpful in understanding the facts. However, we know from our experience that such statements almost always have zero factual support, and that the person making such a claim literally doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

We also know from our experience, a person making such a statement is really voicing an emotional reaction something closer to the spirit of, “The government killed Dr. King? Ok, I read and understood the paragraphs about the trial and evidence. I read Mrs. King’s and her son’s statement. I haven’t invested the time to verify how valid that information is. I’m not stupid, but because the implications of what that means is so disturbing, I’m going to deny anything about it could possibly be true as my first response. If I’m going to continue being in denial and refuse to discuss the evidence, I’ll attack the messenger.”

We also need to consider the lack of coverage by US corporate media of this compelling evidence, trial verdict, and King family testimony from over 30 years’ analysis of the facts. Recall the evidence of US corporate media reporting being infiltrated by CIA agents to propagandize Americans’ access to information. This included the Director of the CIA’s admission to Congress that they have over 400 agents working in corporate media to make the US public believe what the CIA wants them to believe.

In 2006, George Washington University used a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain the US military’s “Information Operations Roadmap.” This formerly secret and approved document details present US government strategies to generate propaganda, and then attack Internet alternative media that provides dangerous facts and discussion. The military promoted the term, “Fight the net.” [76]

Although I won’t enter the burden of proof here, you may know that there are similar and related bodies of evidence that the US government assassinated other American leaders who opposed key policies of an apparent violent faction within US government. The 1975 Senate Church Committee disclosed that the US government initiated and helped assassination attempts on multiple foreign heads of state. [77]

If we were discussing how the population of some other nation could employ critical thinking skills to understand current events from anytime in history, we would certainly understand the importance to anticipate disinformation from government, danger of controlled media, and assassination as a political weapon.

Failure to do so would appropriately elicit the label attributed to the first dictator of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Lenin. Such people who believe what their government tells them when the history and present have overwhelming objective evidence to explain, document, and prove that the government is typical of so many other historical self-serving oligarchies are:

“Useful idiots.”

To the extent the United States today is any different from all other nations and all other times is up to your exercise of critical thinking skills.

US-Funded "Rights Advocate" Censoring Free-Speech Forum

US-Funded "Rights Advocate" Censoring Free-Speech Forum by Tony Cartalluci

Prachatai describes itself as "an independent, non-profit, daily web newspaper established in June 2004 to provide reliable and relevant news and information to the Thai public during an era of serious curbs on the freedom and independence of Thai news media." Their objectives include, "to promote active public participation in Thai news media."

The "independent" daily web newspaper does indeed make daily posts with information taken from organizations with heroic sounding names, including "Freedom House," "Human Rights Watch," "Amnesty International," and the "International Federation for Human Rights," with almost all of their stories centered around anti-censorship, pro-free speech and pro-democracy topics.

At Prachatai.com, one would think it would be the last place to fall victim of the very same censorship they fight against daily. In reality, it is one of the first places to expect such double standards.

In Reality

In reality, Prachatai abjectly lies about being "independent." In fact, they are fully funded by the US State Department via the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and USAID, Wall Street banker George Soros' Open Society and Media Development Loan Fund (MDLF), the Rockefeller Foundation, and the German government's Heinrich Böll Foundation. It was only last year, in 2011, that this information was made available to the public, and only after months of working to expose and hold Prachatai accountable.

DEGRADE THIS: Wall Street’s Ratings Agencies Undermine Europe’s Attempt at Recovery Acting Like Financial Terrorists by Danny Schechter

Author of The Crime of Our Time

We live in an increasingly degraded country.

Our politics are degraded and a laughing stock to the word. Our military is demoralized and degraded with soldiers urinating on dead civilians and awaiting deployment orders for the next illegal intervention.
Our education system has been degraded with standards falling and pervasive defunding. Our transportation system, ditto.

I could go on, but I don’t have to. We are all living the decline with downward mobility, jobless and foreclosures, to cite a few trends that make life so miserable for so many.

Now, our godlike financial ratings agencies have decided to degrade nine countries struggling to fix their financial crisis. The decision by Standard and Poors (Best renamed, “It is now Standard to Be Poor”) to downgrade credit ratings for France, Italy, Austria and six other European countries signals those nations that Wall Street has them by the cojones. Their costs for borrowing will go up.

They are being warned: We are in Charge. Do as we say!

Unreported in all of this, is that many of the companies that loaned them the money are part of a US led financial oligarchy. The Credit agencies—the same ones that legitimated fraudulent sub prime lenders with no accountability—are part of the enforcement gang of today’s loan sharks who are squeezing Europe to pay up or else.

The Landlords of Eminent Domain.

The Landlords of Eminent Domain. - Les Visible

Dog Poet Transmitting.......

May your noses always be cold and wet.

A little something different today, for all those speculating in the hinterlands and inner lands where speculation is the general order of the day. Why are things the way they are and where did all these hideous people come from? Where did these bankrupt leaders; vicious reavers, financial psychopaths, The Satanic Chosen, the indifferent and preening self adulatory come from and why are they here? That's a good question. There's a reason for everything, even if we don't know what it is at the time.

During the period when I met The Man on the Beach, I remember being in a small roadside tavern in Big Sur. I was taking a leak and I happened to look over to the wall on my left where there was some amount of graffiti and it was at that point when this young lad with his long hair noticed the pithy comment, “Hippies are living proof that niggers fuck dogs”. Big Sur was the home of Esalen and any number of various get togethers and hideaways for people out on the edge of the new frontiers of consciousness. It was also a hotbed for very right wing types who owned a lot of the land; what land could be owned. You didn't want to go camping just anywhere in that area. I had heard the tales about baseball bats studded with nails and so forth. I never thought about it much. It was only later that I found out about all the serial killers prowling Route 1; the organized ones were creating their tableaus in the ice plant configurations at the entrance and exit points of the freeways running in and out of LA and then there were the San Bernadino mountain aficionados who preferred the forests.

There are Orange County-like enclaves all over that failed experiment called America. Some of them are called Palm Beach County and some of them are called Westchester County and all of them contain those peoples and personalities generic to the routines performed there. They need the world to work and act a certain way, according to that timeless formula of, “Me first, you later, maybe”. They don't think of themselves as a bad sort. They give money to their various charities that support what is euphemistically called The Arts and they've got the hospitals, where they are basically investing in a future stay and better treatment for themselves and whoever showed up in their familial mix. They give generously to Cancer because cancer is a gift that keeps giving, in terms of stock portfolios and direct mass payments, if you're a doctor, but otherwise serve to advance an enormous industry of related endeavors like pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and hospice chains. Cancer is big business and no one making money off of it wants it to go away.

War is even bigger money maker and no one making money off of it wants it to go away. Oil is even bigger money and no one killing and displacing millions to get it or suppressing every other technology (unless they control it) wants it to go away. But where did these people come from?

Where did this terrible epidemic of bad leaders in every area of endeavor come from and why are so many of them here at this particular time?

It's reincarnation people. Everyone you see has chosen to be here and is compelled to act as they do according to the Karma of their being for purposes of demonstration to others AND to themselves and for the purpose of judgment on the manifest plane. The majority of people do not understand the dynamics of human birth in the manifest. Certain things can only be accomplished in a physical body. That is both the good news and the bad news; given the suffering that attends our presence on this plane. Because appearances play such a big part in the conditions of our residency, our state of ease or disease is dependent on the degree to which we are controlled by appearances. Appearances are the primary lie because they are a temporary and changing expression of something that is essentially different than what is being presented. This is how people become immersed in deception. This is because appearances are always with us and it's just easier for the human mind to accept appearances as reality. After all, everyone else does. The pressure to go along with whatever everyone else believes is happening is very great.

When we are children we are all the victims of telepathic invasion from our parents and also from whatever structures we are exposed to for the purpose of education/indoctrination. The infrastructure and those who manipulate it, for control for the purpose of gain, insists that we proceed on rails and in slots for the greater good, which is a euphemism for the greater good of the few. Both the social and governmental constructs as well as the religious angle are in place for the purpose of dominating our attention so that we will be good little robots from the cradle to the grave. The only system that ever really works out to the advantage of the ordinary resident is the small community/village dynamic which allows for an operating input by the informed citizen. This is what they perverted in order to sell us the lie of demoncracy; “it takes a village” and then of course, you often wind up burning the village in order to save it.

The county structures I mentioned earlier; the enclaves of the privileged and degrees of privileged are regimented environments of entrenched stupidity, which supports the horrors of a material age. They give fealty to a lie of protected comforts based on a superiority of status, which accords the finer opportunities of education that lead to the connections that contribute to the rise in position, in respect of the marketplace and the insular and closed cultures of those whose wheels have been greased so that they might enjoy a higher standard of living because, well... because they're just better than we are; whoever 'we' may happen to be at the moment.

These large demographics of associating professionals, insane Christians and sundry types make it possible for a Bush or an Obama to be shoehorned into higher office so that they can carry out the policies of bankers and others who see no act of torment and aggression to be too egregious to perform. Basically they don't give a shit who gets hurt. They see columns of numbers on a page. They are actuarial junkies who worship nothing but the bottom line. They are as they are because over a long term of coming and going that is where they wound up. This cycle of shit goes on across the space of an age and not much interrupts it as quid pro quo and status quo engage in their extended mutual frottage.

However, the time comes, as it always does when judgment makes its appearance and that is why there are so many people here. They've been brought here to see the value of what they have been up to. They are here because what goes around eventually comes around and here it is in your face. What are you up to at the moment? What is the direction of your thought? That is the determinant of your placement in the order of things. That is also good news and bad news. The thing is that it doesn't appear as bad new to those in their gated communities and places of privilege in positions of power and influence. They're certain that they will be okay because they've got every right to be there. They're the landlords of eminent domain.

Yeah, it's all fun city until it turns into nightmare alley. It's hard to run with the weight of wealth and even harder to hide your face when you've been all over the TV for... the purpose of demonstration.

There are personal veils and there are the larger shared veils of communities and classes. In a time of material preeminence, these veils are powerful in their magnetic force as it applies to the tenets of belief. People join together is a common acceptance of what is real. That's not even generally real, that's just what some amount of people decided was going to be because it most comprehensively accommodated their appetites and desires. This is the time of summing up. That means this is the time of judgment. There's time left to change utterly but the veils... ah the veils; through a scarf darkly.

There will be a radio show tonight but PLEASE NOTE that I will be on at feet2thefire radio at 9:00 Central and not the usual 7:30 because it will be a live interview with James that will last for an hour. As usual, it will be available for download the following day. That would be tomorrow in case there is any confusion about it (8/*grin).
